"Children versus The Population" a poem by Signe Johannes, based upon Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal. In 50 years or so, When we are old and gray, And the population continues to grow In the most unholy way We will have to find a solution Better than "the pill" To help reduce the population As we go "over the hill". The best solution I have heard, Actually the only one to date, May seem a little bit absurd, But listen as I elaborate: This solution is quite simple, Pure genius indeed! It is--to eat the children! Allow me to proceed: It is just a bit unethical, yes, But pray, keep in mind That children taste like chicken And they have no rind. With a bit of oregano And salt and pepper to taste, Mix well in a blender, And voila! Lovely child paste! Good for garnish (yummy yum yum) And excellent on crackers, You will be helping the population crisis By serving kids as snackers. So when crumb-snatchers cover the earth Remember what I have said. Don't decrease the rate of birth, Have children for lunch, instead!
